Halong Bay

Halong Bay

Halong Bay is one of the most popular destinations in all of Vietnam thanks to its beautiful beaches and dramatic cliffs and islets. Given its proximity to Hanoi, it comes as no surprise that visitors are coming in droves to see the picturesque seascapes for themselves. There are many activities in Halong Bay, all of which present an opportunity to experience the best of the destination in a different way.

Sailing Aboard a Junk

Cruises are a typical part of trips to just about any beach destination across the globe. What makes Halong Bay different is the presence of beautiful ships ironically called junks. Cruising aboard one of these boats or ships with a distinct sail is one of the unique activities in Halong Bay you simply have to experience. Cruising is one of the best ways to explore the waters surrounding what is now one of the World’s New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Board a cruise ship to get to Titop Island, one of the more popular islets in all of Halong Bay. Activities on here range from climbing to the top of mountain for a panoramic view of the bay to quiet watersports like kayaking in the shallow waters surrounding the islet.

Another of the many activities in Halong Bay you need to give a shot is the trek to Bo Nau Cave. The mouth of this cave stretches to 7 meters at the widest, and the view from the inside is quite a treat. Hanging from the roof of the cave near the entrance are stalactites, making it look like you are looking down at the bay from inside the mouth of a dragon. It is quite an experience and should be a priority on your list of Halong Bay Activities.

If you would rather participate in something more low key, they kayaking in the waters surrounding Luon Cave is something you might want to do. Luon Cave measures 60 meters long and 4 meters wide, and brings you into a lake enclosed by limestone cliffs and mountains. It is a unique sight accessible only by kayaking your way in. The water within the natural formation is a perfect jade green, a stark contrast from the turquoise blue of the bay.

A View from the Top

Halong Bay is a sight to behold from the beach or the deck of a cruise ship, but a view from the top reveals secrets impossible to see from sea level. Helicopter tours are one of the several growing alternative Halong Bay activities. Discover a whole new side of the beautiful Halong Bay aboard a helicopter.
