What was once just the point of entry to the South Korean capital is now a bustling metropolis of its own. Just outside of Seoul is the city of Incheon, and it is ready to step out of the capital’s shadow. Incheon has fast become a popular destination for those visiting Korea and the future only looks to get brighter.
Here’s a quick look at some of the best things to do in Incheon:
Adventure Starts at the Airport
Most people want to get out of the airport as quickly as possible upon arrival in a new city. Things are a little bit different in Incheon, though. Look at any ‘Best Airports in the World’ list and chances are you will find Incheon International Airport ranking consistently anywhere from first through third place. It comes as no surprise, then, that the airport itself is one of the top attractions in Incheon.
Whether you intend to or not, it is highly likely you will end up hanging out at the airport. It might seem weird, but the airport is where you will find some of the best shopping and dining options in the city, and it also features a spa and other amenities—what reason do you have not to explore?
Parks and Recreation
You are going to have to leave the airport eventually and find other things to do in Incheon, and one of the best plans is to head to Chinatown. Incheon’s Chinatown is the only official one in the country and there is plenty to see and do. Restaurants in the area serve a mix of authentic Chinese and Korean staples, making it the best place to fuel up before heading out to different parts of the city. It is also where you can get some souvenir shopping done.
Located right next to Chinatown is Jayu Park (Freedom Park). Here, you will find a statue commemorating the arrival of General Douglas MacArthur and beautifully landscaped gardens. The park is up on a hilltop and has excellent views of the city as well.
The Grand Park is one of the most famous Incheon attractions. The park is home to the city’s beautiful Botanical and Rose Gardens, where you will find an assortment of plants and some of the world’s best rose blooms.
Shopping and Sightseeing
Bupyeong is home to the biggest underground shopping mall in all of South Korea. The seemingly endless number of aisles might look like a maze, but make an effort and you will find some of the best bargains for apparel, shoes, bags, souvenirs, and basically everything under the sun. The shopping and dining in Bupyeong are among the best things to do in Incheon.
Incheon is a destination slowly but surely growing into its own. With the development of a Free Economic Zone, the number of attractions in Incheon will only continue to grow in number through the years.
