New Delhi

New Delhi

Dynamic, vibrant, and thriving—these three words best describe Delhi, the National Capital Region of the second most populous country in the world. The city is the epitome of Indian culture; where you see, hear, taste, smell, and feel the very best India has to offer. The range of activities in Delhi highlight centuries upon centuries of history and tradition integrated into a modern way of life.

Historic Sites and Museums
Delhi tours will take you to some of the most beautiful and most visited architectural wonders not only in all of India, but the world as well. Get your day started at the India Gate, which honors the memory of soldiers who died during the Indo-Pakistan War, and stands as the country’s National Monument. Also found here is the Amar Jawan Jyoti, or the Flame of the Immortal Soldier.

The Red Fort is a sprawling complex where you will find multiple Delhi attractions in one place. Dating all the way back to 1648, a stroll through the grounds of this national landmark will take you back hundreds of years into the past. More than just walls and gates that measure upwards of 30 meters, the complex is also home to a number of museums like the Swatantata Sangram Sanghralaya museum, which features paintings and meticulously designed dioramas detailing India’s struggle for independence. Visit at night to see a spectacular lights and sounds show about the fort’s history.

A Harmonious Gathering of Cultures and Religions
Majority of Delhi’s residents follow the Hindu faith, but the city embraces all religions, and proof of this is in the numerous heritage sites and temples found all over.

Completed only in 2005, the Swaminarayan Akshardam is a larger than life Hindu temple showcasing millennia of culture, art and architecture. The view as you approach the giant structure is breathtaking, but seeing the enormous dome up close will leave you feeling tiny and at awe. It is one of those New Delhi attractions you cannot afford to pass up when on a visit. As is the case most everywhere else, pickpockets are common, so stay alert during your visit.

There are many Delhi attractions that highlight the importance of religion in society, but perhaps the most prominent example is The New Delhi Baha’i House of Worship, otherwise known as the Lotus Temple. What makes this landmark so interesting, other than the fact that it is one of the largest places of worship in India, is that it welcomes all religions. Regardless of the faith you believe in, a visit to this temple is an opportunity to say a little prayer for your personal intentions. Do this as you take in the majestic design of the structure and experience its calming powers.

Don’t think, though, that the attractions in Delhi are limited to just museums and temples. There is so much more to the city, and Travease can help you plan an itinerary to see the best of it.
